the make-up system of water treatment facilities to condensate polishing and
the primary system, securing demineralized water and removing impurities.

Ion exchange resins used in the primary circuit may be exposed to radiation, so highly cross-linked resins are used, and they must have low impurity content and excellent physicochemical strength. This is because trace impurities in the resin leaching into the system water, or fine particles entering from resin breakage, can affect water quality control standards.
For this reason, specifications for nuclear-grade ion exchange resins set stricter criteria than for general industrial resins on items such as ionic form conversion, sodium (Na) content, particle size and uniformity coefficient, exchange capacity, and moisture content.
